Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a artist that was born in Newark New Jersey on the 9th August, 1963. The parents of her are gospel superstars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick also sings. The singer began her singing career in a choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the early years of her childhood and by the age of 15, she had begun singing backing vocals professionally along with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 smash Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were some of the performers she performed with. She was also briefly modeling for Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. The high quality of her performance as the vocalist featured in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several big record companies, like Arista who she signed her contract in 1982, where she continued to work for the remainder of her career. Whitney Houston's debut Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It became one of the best-selling albums by an artist. Songs like The Greatest Love of All, How Do I Know if You Give Good Love, and the song Saving all My Love were all released on the album. They helped Houston to achieve seven US top tens that surpassed even those of the Beatles. In its initial US year of release, the album sold over 3 million units. It went on to be purchased by millions of people around the world, earning her her first Grammy. Whitney, her album Whitney, released in 1987, and featuring the popular tracks What Do Broken Hearts go? and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, continued her earlier success. It came with The Bodyguard (1996) that established her as the top selling album in music. The film, and her performance as a character was not well received, but the music and her interpretation to Dolly's I Will Always Love You charted for several months on the charts and she sold more than 44 million singles and albums worldwide. In 1993, it was also that she married Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition singer who gave her sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. In 1996, her consumption of the drug was well-documented.
